Denzel Washington Sells 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo For Over $400,000

Denzel Washington is one car down but almost half a million dollars richer thanks to a recent sale in which he sold his 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo for over $400,000.

The Bring a Trailer auction listing explains the actor has been the car’s sole owner since it debuted in the late ‘90s. Photos show that its odometer only has 18,145 miles on it.

“Finished in black over black, the car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six that drives all four wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip rear differential,” the listing explained.

“The seats are trimmed in black pleated leather with debossed Porsche crests in the headrests and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, console, and door panels,” it continued.

The car comes with a variety of features, including cruise control, climate control, air conditioning, and a Porsche CR-210 stereo. The listing added the sale also included a “tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.”

The Porsche was originally listed for $400,000. It eventually sold for $405,993 when the auction ended on March 30th after two days. Despite the car being a collector’s piece, some of the high price tag can be attribute to Washington’s star power.

Motor 1 explains that a similar 1997 911 Turbo with 26,440 miles recently sold for $299,900, while another 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo with 26,949 miles went for $318,900.

In general, 911s tend to go for high prices. The sports car was first introduces in the early ‘60s, and has become known for its rear-mounted, flat-six engine (which first started off as a torsion bar suspension). It’s a part of Porsche’s permanent collection.

Washington wasn’t directly selling the car himself. Rather, it was listed by a third-party seller referred to as @Wob on the listing.

There were over 450 comments left on the bidding page, with many people swooning over the luxe model. The buyer was identified as only @valvesprings, with many of the comments expressing congratulations over his purchase.

With a net worth of $280 million, it’s no surprise Washington has a fleet of expensive cars at his disposal. He’s known to have an Aston Martin Vanquish, valued at over $300,000, and an Astin Martin DBS, which likely costs over $296,000.

Washington’s other models include a $400,000 Rolls Royce Phantom, a $87,000 Range Rover, and a $31,000 Chrysler 31C.
