Honey Boo Boo Might Leave Reality TV For Surprising New Career

Mama June Shannon says her daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, has big plans for the future—and surprisingly—they don’t involve a camera crew. The Mama June: Road to Redemption star admits that the Shannon family has “made a career” of appearing on TV—but she doesn’t see her daughter following the same path.

Speaking to The Sun, Mama June explained that 16-year-old Alana is set to start her final year of high school next fall, and like many seniors, she’s focused on getting into college and looking into new career paths.

"She has been accepted into some colleges and she graduates high school next year," Mama June said of Alana—who made a name for herself when she first appeared on Toddlers & Tiaras more than a decade ago.

Mama June noted that filming crews had followed the family around for nearly 11 years now, but she doesn’t see her youngest daughter making it her future.

"Granted, we've made a career out of it when it fell in our lap, but I don't see Alana doing reality TV at the age of 40," Mama June said, adding that her daughter “wants to go into a nursing program."

Reality TV has proved to be lucrative for the family. Alana reportedly earned $50,000 an episode to appear on TLC's Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Not too shabby for a teenager.

Despite being famous, Alana has been through a lot during her time in the spotlight. Her mother famously lost guardianship of her in 2019 after being arrested for possession of illegal substances. These days, Alana is legally overseen by her sister, Lauryn Shannon.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Mama June explained that despite the troubled relationship she has with her children, she hasn’t given up on making things right.

"It’s beating, like, a dead horse. For people to be able to move on, you’ve got to stop. … If you keep on living in the past, all you’re gonna do is keep looking back and you’re not gonna see what’s in the front windshield."

"We see each other. We talk. They know when they need me, I’m here."
