Mathew Morrison OUT As A Judge On ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

Mathew Morrison is vacating his spot at the judge's table on Fox’s hit dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance. The Glee album—who was just announced in April as a new judge on the long-running series —exits the show just one week after the premiere of the 17th season after he failed to follow production protocols.

Fox announced that Morrison would join the show in April, along with JoJo Siwa, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, and returning host Cat Deeley. Morrison, Siwa, and Boss fill the seats left vacant at the judge's table following the departure of Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Laurieann.

“Having the opportunity to be a judge on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ was an incredible honor for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show. After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly,” Morrison said in the statement.

He added: “I cannot apologize enough to all involved and I will be watching alongside you all on what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”

It's unclear what sort of “competition production protocols” the actor failed to follow or how it impacted his ability to be an impartial judge. The show has already started airing its 17th season, so expect Morrison to appear in at least four episodes.

Morrison previously worked as a "dance captain" on BBC One's The Greatest Dancer.

The American Horror Story: 1984 actor hasn't revealed what the show paid him for his role as a judge—but it’s probably somewhere in the same ballpark as fellow judge Cat Deeley—who reportedly earns $60,000 per episode.

It hasn’t been announced whether the actor will receive his total contractual compensation, or if his breach of protocol prevents that.

Morrison is best known for his role as Will Schuester on the Fox musical television series Glee, which premiered in 2009 and ran 121 episodes over six seasons until the cast decided to sing their last song in 2015. For his part in the show, Morrison received $80,000 per episode.
