Studios Won’t Hire Johnny Depp Due To Bad Behavior: Ex-Agent
While many hope that Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard will get his career back on track, finding work in Hollywood may still be a challenge for the legendary actor.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, Jonny’s former agent Tracey Jacobs had her video deposition played before the court on Thursday.
The agent had worked for Johnny for over 30 years before he let her go in 2016. Tracey claims that Johnny’s reputation was tainted long before Amber’s allegations were made public.
“He became the biggest star in the world,” Tracey explained. But she implied that success went to his head and working for him became “far more complicated” in the last decade due to his “unprofessional behavior.”
Tracey said she warned her former client that his behavior would take toll on his career, which she says he’s now feeling the burden.
"Showing up late to set consistently on virtually every movie. I would get yelled at,” Tracey testified under oath. “I never said to him, 'You're a difficult client.' I never used those words. But I was very honest with him and said, 'You've got to stop doing this. This is hurting you.' And it did."
She continued, “Initially, crews loved him because he was always so great with the crew. But crews don't love sitting around for hours and hours and hours waiting for the star of the movie to show up.”
The agent said that “people talk,” and Johnny’s behavior eventually “made people reluctant to use him towards the end” of their professional relationship.
Johnny is currently suing his ex-wife over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in which she described surviving domestic abuse. Contrarily, Johnny has alleged she was emotionally and physically abusive during their time together.
He’s also provided witness testimonies that allege he’s missed out on career opportunities due to Amber’s allegations – including a $22.5 million role in a sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
However, the testimony from Johnny’s ex-agent seems to imply his difficulty holding down roles precedes his conflict with Amber.
The defamation case remains ongoing. Both Johnny and Amber have taken the stand to accuse the other of mistreatment during their relationship. The two started dating after meeting while filming 2011’s The Rum Diary. They eventually tied the knot in 2015, though Amber filed for divorce the following year.
Johnny has been accused of sexually assaulting his ex-wife, while she’s admitted in an audio recording to hitting him. Amber has also been accused of lying about donating her divorce settlement.
