A Peek Inside Tyler Perry's Fancy Real Estate Portfolio Over The Years
Tyler Perry is not precisely famous for his subtlety, probably most notably in his real estate-related portfolio. Over the years, the billionaire actor, director, screenwriter, and producer has purchased and sold a multitude of expansive properties, primarily in Los Angeles and Atlanta. He also spent a good deal of money on a log cabin in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and once bought himself a 25-acre island for his birthday in the Bahamas.
Perry has chosen a number of locations with roots to enslavement and racial inequality as part of a gradual, slow climb to recover these places through his real estate business. Below, we've compiled some of Perry's most renowned properties and the compelling tales behind them.
7 The Avec Chateau Mansion

In April 2001, the now-billionaire undertook one of his earliest real estate purchases in Atlanta by purchasing a parcel in Fairborn, Georgia. He purchased the site for $62,661 and constructed what he subsequently told Ebony magazine was a "testament to the rewards of faith."
The Avec Chateau mansion measured 17,252 square feet and contained six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms. The 26-room mansion featured, among other opulent rooms, a double-height Italian marble entrance with a massive horse statue, a ballroom-sized majestic salon, and a lined library with a crystal chandelier. In 2009, Perry offered the property for $3,695,000. It is unknown if it was ever sold.
6 The Ultra-Exclusive Beverly Ridge Estates

The producer of the Madea film series purchased 22 acres of land in the ultra-exclusive Beverly Ridge Estates for $4,300,000. He then spent several years and millions of dollars constructing a 24,000-square-foot mansion in the Tuscan style on the property. A multitude of A-list stars, notably Barack Obama and Oprah, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have stayed at the opulent mansion with its eight bedrooms and twelve bathrooms.
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to walk away from their royal status in early 2020, Oprah is widely believed to have facilitated the connection between them and Perry. Presently, the estate is valued at approximately $18 million, as per property records.
5 A Palatial Residence

Perry's $9 million acquisition of 17 acres along the Chattahoochee River, which is just outside Atlanta, was a significant acquisition. Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the estate belonged to Moreton Rolleston, a prominent attorney and the owner of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, a corporation that denied service to African Americans.
Perry completely destructed the existing building and three years were spent building a 34,000-square-foot mansion with seven rooms and fourteen bathrooms. The opulent property had a motor courtyard with a fountain, a parlor with leatherette walls, a home cinema with distinctive coffered ceiling, and a ballroom with Brazilian hardwood flooring in the subterranean level. In 2016, Perry sold the property to televangelist David Turner for an unprecedented $17.5 million.
4 The Modern Bird Streets Behemoth

Perry's next purchase was a futuristic, modern behemoth sited in the Bird Streets neighborhood of the famous Hollywood Hills. Four bedrooms, six rooms, and a glass-floor were included in the residence, which the famous producer purchased for $9.6 million.
In addition, it featured a snooker room overlooking the pool, a modern nightclub with a disco ball and a bar, and a huge garage. Perry attempted to sell the residence for $13 million in 2010, but was unsuccessful. However, three years later, he sold it for $11 million.
3 The White Bay Cay Villa

Perry rewarded himself with a private island for his fortieth birthday, buying the 25-acre White Bay Cay and an adjacent 7-acre island in the Bahamas. As per The Wall Street Journal, the largest of the two islands was advertised for $7 million, but it is unknown how much the multimedia magnate ultimately paid for the pair.
Perry constructed a Balinese-style villa and adjoining bungalows on the formerly abandoned island, and even got flight training so he could fly his private jet to his new home.
2 The Tony Residence

Next, Perry purchased a contemporary glass Beverly Hills residence with breathtaking views of Los Angeles. He spent $14.5 million for the 4.5-acre estate once held by millionaire physicist and inventor Alfred E. Mann, who had constructed the home in 1992. The residence was 17,245 square feet with 10 rooms and 11 bathrooms.
Perry apparently purchased the property as an investment property and resold it five months later for $17 million without making significant upgrades or changes. Pharrell Williams bought the luxurious home, which boasts pyramid-shaped skylights, stone marble staircases, and a resort-style pool.
1 An Atlanta Mansion

Perry purchased another piece of land close outside the city two years after selling his record-breaking Atlanta house. It is unknown how much the tycoon spent on the 1,200-acre property, but he is now building a 35,000-square-foot mansion and a second, probably guest house-sized structure on the land.
There is also a large lap pool and what looks to be an airport runway under development, which partially explains Perry's piloting expertise. As an extra advantage, the new estate is situated near the 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios for a convenient commute.
