8 Dolly Parton’s Buddy Program
Right after Dolly Parton launched her Dollywood Foundation, she had turned her focus on the reduction of the high school dropout rate in the Sevier County, Tennessee. With a clever mind, Parton asked all of the seventh- and eighth-grade students to have a buddy and announced that she will be donating $500 in cash for each student once they were able to finish high successfully. To be given $500 each, they had only one requirement that is to make sure that their buddy will graduate and finish high school successfully. With Parton’s helping hand, the dropout rate in the said school declined significantly from 35% down to 6%. There was no reported head count of the number of students that were helped by the program but with an estimated student of 1,000, the program would have costs around $500,000.
7 Her Donation To Sevier County Hospital
Dolly Parton held a benefit concert to help raise money for the LeConte Medical Center, the latest hospital and cancer center in the county at the time. The concert was held on May 2007 and Parton was able to raise a sum of $500,000. In addition to the funds raised from the benefit concert, both Parton’s Dixie Stampede dinner theater and Dollywood pledged $250,000 each to be donated to the center. The total amount donated to the hospital was $1 million in total. The hospital finally opened in 2010 and named their health ward for woman's Parton.
6 Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital At Vanderbilt Donation
The Here You Come Again singer has donated a sum of $1 million towards the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in 2017. At the time, the singer just released her children’s album titled I Believe In You and she promised to donate the said amount to celebrate the release of her album. The donation made by Parton was to honor her beloved niece who was treated for leukemia at the said hospital. She added that the hospital treated her niece with care in and fully recovered from the illness, so she wanted to give back to the hospital.
5 Her Donation Towards COVID-19 Vaccine Research
During the pandemic, the country music star Dolly Parton donated $1 million towards the research for the vaccine against the COVID-19. At the time when the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the world, Parton did not stand idly and let the nature run its course, she knows that she had to do something and she decided to help fund the development of the vaccine. Just recently, Dolly Parton donated $1 million towards the Vanderbilt's division of pediatric infectious disease research this June 2022. Parton loves children and she believes that child should have to suffer. She added that she is willing to do her part and try to keep the children as safe and healthy as possible. The hospital conducts research on how the bacteria and viruses can cause disease and resistance to the antibiotics. This can also prevent and treat infections in those children with cancer.
3 The Dolly Parton Scholarship
Dolly Parton pledged in 2000 that she would be giving $15,000 scholarship to five lucky high school seniors studying in Sevier County, Tennessee. The said scholarship would be done every year through the Dollywood Foundation. The scholarship would be awarded to those who are dreaming of pursuing college. In order to be chosen, the student needs to successfully communicate their plan as well as their commitment towards their dreams. This donation can amount to $375,000 for five students for five years.
2 Telethon For The East Tennessee Wildfires
The said Telethon was organized after the devastating East Tennessee wildfires. The said fund raising drive was called The Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund. Dolly Parton was among the artists who have participated in the fund raising drive and among the artists are Chris Young, Kenny Rogers, Lauren Alaina, Alison Krauss, American singer Cyndi Lauper and a lot more. The said event was able to raise a total of $13 million.
1 Special Merit Scholarship
Dolly Parton made headlines once again in 2016 after she awarded a $30,000 scholarship to a 2 year old child named Evey Johns. She awarded the said donation to recognize the Imagination Library’s milestone after they shipped out one million books monthly.
