Ricky Martin’s Ex-Manager Wants $3 Million For Saving His Career

Ricky Martin’s former manager is looking for a million-dollar payday after she says the singer breached their contract.

According to TMZ, court documents reveal that Rebecca Drucker acted as his manager from 2014 to 2018. Martin went on to hire her again in 2020, at which point she says his “personal and professional life [were] in absolute turmoil,” due to Martin’s alleged substance abuse and non-payment of taxes.

Drucker claims she worked hard to get the singer’s career back on track by getting him sponsorship deal and recording contracts. She also helped organize his North American tour with Enrique Iglesias.

The court documents reveal that Drucker also protected Martin after he was faced with a “career-ending allegation.” Although it’s unclear what the contention was, Drucker says she got Martin the best lawyers to successfully bury the allegation.

For years, she protected Martin from the consequences of his reckless indiscretions,” the lawsuit, which was filed by lawyers Joshua M. Rosenberg and Armound Ghoorchian from Venable LLP, explained. “Rebecca did so not only because she was his manager, but also because she thought that Martin was her dear friend."

Even though Martin’s career was on the up, Drucker says their professional relationship took a turn for the worse. She’s accusing the singer of routinely lying and manipulating her in addition to creating a "toxic workplace." Drucker says his behavior caused her to resign in April.

However, Drucker says Martin then refused to pay her the commission she says she’s owed. When she pushed back, Drucker claims she was met with threats. She adds that Martin’s team tried to force her to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Drucker subsequently filed a lawsuit on Wednesday with the Los Angeles Superior Court in hopes of having a jury trial. She’s seeking $3 million as well as punitive damages.

“Rebecca Drucker saved Ricky Martin’s career,” the complaint reads. “There is just one problem: Martin completely and maliciously refused to pay Rebecca the millions of dollars in commissions that he owes her under their management agreement.”

It continues, “Martin has now threatened Rebecca and is attempting to force her to sign an agreement with a nondisclosure clause to silence Rebecca about the abhorrent behavior by Martin that she has both witnessed and endured.”

So far, Martin has not publicly acknowledge the lawsuit. He’s being represented by Andrew Brettler of Lavley & Singer.
