Donda Academy Shuts Down, Only For Kanye To Reopen It Hours Later

Kanye West continues to lose partnerships amid his controversial behavior, and now even his own private school is attempting to cut ties. However, hours after an announcement that Donda Academy was closing for the remainder of the school year, Ye re-opened the school.

On Friday, the school’s principal Jason Angell sent out an email saying Kanye decided to close the academy.

“Dear Donda Academy Families- we hope this email finds you well,” the email said. “First, we would like to express our gratitude for the community of families and scholars that Donda Academy brought together. However, at the direction of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately. Thursday, October 27th. THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW.”

"Our leadership team will be working diligently to assist all families during this transition, ensuring that every scholar has what they need to succeed in their next community in a prompt and gracious manner," it continued. "We intend to begin afresh in September of 2023."

Donda Academy is an uncredited private Christian school in Southern California for pre-kindergarten to grade twelve students, which Ye revealed he opened in September 2022.

However, less than a day after the email was sent out, Kanye reportedly re-opened the school. Posting on social media, the rapper said the school would be open for classes the following day, unlike the email stated.

“Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy,” his message said. “With the help of our parents and community, we are back and returning with a vengeance!

It continued, “The children of Donda are going to change the world.”

Moreover, Kanye made another post saying he wants to expand Donda Academy to another state, and he called on fellow rapper 50 Cent to help. “We got Donda school designs we need to build with 50 in Houston,” Ye wrote.

Though classes may be continuing at Donda Academy, the school year isn’t going to be the same for students. Kanye’s recent antics – which include a slew of antisemitic and anti-Black comments – have gotten its boy’s basketball team dropped by a top tournament.

Kanye’s long-time partnership with Adidas was also terminated earlier this month. Other companies including Balenciaga, Footlocker, and Gap have also ended their relationships with the Yeezy founder.
