The ‘Stranger Things’ Creel Home Can Be Yours For A Million-Dollar Price
Stranger Things fans have the opportunity to own a piece of the show’s history as the Creel House has been put on the market.
In the show, the home acts as the Creel family’s short-term residence as well as Vecna’s lair in the Upside Down during the fourth season. But in real-life, the home is an antique marvel set in Rome, Georgia.
The home was recently listed for $1.5 million, which is a huge increase for what it was purchased for last time it was on sale in 2019.
At the time, the buyers paid $350,000 for the home. But it’s been restored to its original form in recent years, making it an excellent set for movies and T.V. shows, like Stranger Things.
The $1.5 million asking price may seem decent, given how much other famous homes go for. But a million-dollar price tag is unusual for the Georgia neighbourhood.
Zillow reports that the average value of homes in Rome, Georgia is $200,000, making the Creel House four times the average price. The site notes that housing prices have risen significantly in the area (as they have in most places in North America). In the last year alone, it says housing has risen by 25%.
The Creel House doesn’t only have an interesting cinematic history, but a rich personal one, as well. The home was built nearly 150 years ago in 1882, making it a historic landmark.
It features 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and has a separate guest house in the backyard. It was previously used as a bed and breakfast. The estate features 1-acre of property.
The Stranger Things production team was drawn to the home for its Victorian Style. They agreed to use the house for filming in 2019, prior to the pandemic. Exterior and interior shots of the house were used in the show, though a set was created near Atlanta to mimic the inside of the home for easier filming purposes.
It’s been confirmed that Stranger Things is returning for a fifth season, though it’ll be the beloved Netflix show’s final one.
However, don’t expect to see the new season anytime soon. The Duffer brothers confirmed they started writing the new script in August 2022, but filming isn’t expected to begin until sometime next year.
It's expected the new season won’t take as long to film, as the fourth season was heavily impacted by the COVID pandemic.
"Don’t hold us to it, but the gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus,” the Duffer brothers previously said.
