Aaron Carter's Family Promises Not To Challenge His Son's Inheritance

There’s been speculation over whether Aaron Carter’s estate will go directly to his son, since the singer died without a will. Despite reports suggesting his extended family may be contesting it, it now appears they’re supportive of the infant gaining the inheritance.

Aaron’s mother Jane Carter spoke to TMZ to reveal she and the rest of her family have no plans to contest the division of the estate.

“[Everyone] “thinks Aaron would’ve wanted everything to go to his son, and the family doesn’t need the money,” she said.

Jane revealed she hasn’t met her grandson yet, but hopes to build a relationship with him.

Aaron welcomed his son, Prince, with his fiancé Melanie Martin in November 2021. The pair had a historically tumultuous relationship, which continued after their son’s birth.

The couple split a month after Prince’s arrival, with Aaron taking to social media to claim Melanie wouldn’t leave his house. Months later, she requested a restraining order again him, citing domestic abuse concerns.

The pair appeared together at the time of Aaron’s death, but they had lost custody of Prince in September 2022 following violence and substance abuse concerns. The infant was put in the care of Melanie’s mother.

Aaron didn’t regain custody before his November 5th death, and it appears Melanie still hasn’t, either.

It seems that Melanie has been on rocky terms with Aaron’s family since his death – it’s been confirmed she wasn’t invited to spread his ashes alongside his family in Florida Keys this spring.

Speaking to Us Weekly at the end of November, Melanie echoed concerns that there would be a dispute over Aaron’s estate.

“I don’t want any problems or stress over Aaron’s estate. I just want Prince to be taken care of and want Aaron’s legacy to live on,” she said. “I don’t want any bad blood with Aaron’s family. Whoever wants to be in Prince’s life can be in Prince’s life.”

A source told the publication that Melanie plans to have her own memorial for Aaron alongside their son and loved ones.

Despite being worth $100 million in the past, Aaron was reportedly worth $400,000 at the time of his death.

Previous reports said that Melanie had already lawyered up in anticipation that her former fiancé’s family would fight the inheritance. "The family is fighting her, it's a mess," a source told The U.S. Sun, calling it "real drama."

However, it seems like the question of Aaron’s remaining estate will be a simple matter, if the Carter family does support Prince’s right to inherit the remaining fortune.
