Kevin Spacey Lands New Movie After Winning $40 Million Abuse Case
Kevin Spacey could be making a career comeback, as he’s signed on to his first movie role since winning the $40 million sex abuse case that was levied against him.
According to Variety, Kevin will take part in a British indie thriller titled Control.
The movie is written and directed by Gene Fallaize. It follows a British Government minister, Stella Simmons, who’s having an affair with the Prime Minister and finds herself abducted when her self-driving care is hacked.
Kevin’s will only be limited to a voice over, with reports comparing it to Kiefer Sutherland’s stint in 2002’s Phone Booth. He’ll narrate the antagonist controlling Stella’s car. Stella will be played by Lauren Metcalfe, while Mark Hampton has been cast as the Prime Minister.
Kevin was let go from most projects after his former co-star Anthony Rapp came forward in 2017 with allegations of sex abuse. He claimed the actor molested him as a minor.
Anthony later launched a lawsuit in 2020 against Kevin and was seeking $40 million in damages. But a jury ultimately decided that Anthony hadn’t proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Kevin sexually abused him.
Following Anthony’s initial accusations, other people came forward with similar accusations against Kevin.
Kevin was subsequently dropped from the final season of Netflix’s House of Cards. He was later ordered to pay the streaming giant nearly $31 million due to the losses his firing incurred.
The judge found that Kevin violated his contract with Netflix that called for professional behavior by "engaging certain conduct in connection with several crew members in each of the five seasons that he starred in and executive produced House of Cards.”
He was also recast in the movie All the Money in the World, even though he had already completed filming his scenes.
Even though Kevin’s career may be looking up thanks to his new role, he’s still facing pending legal problems. In the new year, the actor is set to go on trial for fix sex offence charges that reportedly happened between 2005 to 2013. Kevin is pleading not guilty.
