Takeoff Died Without A Will, So His Parents Are Arguing Over His Estate

It’s been over a month since rapper Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston. But is family is reportedly fighting about the future of his estate, given that he died without a will.

According to Hot New Hip Hop, Takeoff never specified where he wanted his reported $26 million fortune to go in the event of his untimely death. Given that he died without a partner or any heirs, his parents are now reportedly over what happens to the estate.

Takeoff was from Atlanta, Georgia, whose state law stipulates that an estate goes to the closest relatives if there is no will.

The rapper’s estate doesn’t just include any material assets he acquired in his lifetime, like real estate investments and vehicles. It also includes the rights to his music catalog as well as any income made from future record sales.

Takeoff’s parents, Titania Davenport-Treet and Kenneth M. Ballare, separated and reportedly don’t get along, making the division of his estate a tricky process so far.

The musician made multiple references to being raised by a single mom in his songs. But Takeoff was vocal that his cousin Offset’s mother, Edna Marshall, also helped raise him. Migos’ third member Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle (he’s the younger brother of Takeoff’s mother).

At one point, all three members of Migos lived under the same roof and have called each brothers more so than friends.

Takeoff was attending a party in the early morning of November 1st when gun shots went off, fatally injuring him. Quavo was with him at the time of his death. It’s unclear what caused the shooting, but his death was deemed a homicide.

Both Offset and Quavo released statements addressing Takeoff’s murder shortly after.

"Dear Take, the pain you have left me with is unbearable," Offset wrote online. "My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can't find the words. I've been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it's reality, and reality is a nightmare."

In his statement, Quavo wrote, "Throughout this whole time he had a REAL passion for music. It was HIS dream to become a rapper cuz I didn't kno what I wanted to do," Quavo wrote. "Then he created his triplet flow and the rest was HISTORY. He never worried about titles, credit, or what man got the most shine, that wasn't him. He didn't care about none of that as long as we brought it back home to the family!"

Takeoff’s death remains under investigation.
