A Peek Inside Fashion Mogul Mickey Drexler's $29 Million Tribeca Home

Drexler has been instrumental in revolutionizing the fashion scene with his pioneering entrepreneurial skills while serving as CEO of J.Crew. His elite clientele list included the former first lady of America, Michelle Obama, Julianne Moore, and other affluent A-listers. He invests most of his $200 million net worth in acquiring and selling luxurious properties. With keen business acumen, he now owns 1.3 acres on Biscayne Bay and paid $16.5 million for an ocean-facing estate in Miami, and in 2017 he bought two adjacent plots for $26 million.

With these purchases, he invested in selling off a mountain getaway in Idaho for $11 million. In 2018, he sold a Tribeca apartment for $19 million, and in 2015 a Montauk property for $50 million. Let us look at the colossal Tribeca property he has listed for $29.9 million.

Mickey Drexler bought the Tribeca coffee-roasting plant building in 2008 for an estimated $5.5 million and converted it into an opulent family home. The five-story building was built in the 1890s and still maintains the vintage facade of old coffee companies.

The 24-foot-wide colossal historic building was a coffee roasting plant built in 1892. Interestingly the red-bricked imposing structure still has its original sign - Turkish and Arabian Coffee Company at the entrance. According to the New York Post, it was modeled by Hugh Getty for Samuel Crooks, a wholesale coffee and tea merchant. Retail mogul and former CEO of J.Crew Millard Drexler was on the hunt for a spacious family home; he purchased the vintage building in 2008 for an estimated $5.5 million. He then remodeled the coffee plant according to his exquisite taste with the help of French architect and interior designer Thierry Despont.

The five-story building was converted into a French paradise. Despont managed to keep its original essence alive through exposed industrial beams, classic arched windows, cast iron columns, and steel structure. The walls were also renovated by adding plenty of wallpapers and color to the muted-toned theme running across the luxe building. The result was a $30 million masterpiece showcasing Bourque interiors with touches of contemporary furniture and light fixtures.

The gigantic private building is located at 464 Greenwich street. A cobble-stoned paved way leads to the street two blocks from Hudson River park and the exquisite Tribeca grill. Patrons of the elite neighborhood include a mainstay owned by the legendary Hollywood actor Robert DeNiro. According to Dirt, the ultra-luxurious family abode is spread across 8,300 square feet and comes with five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and two half baths. The building has an emergency exit staircase connected to the exterior, and a commercial-grade elevator connects all the levels to the ground floor that opens up to the streets.

According to City Realty, the affluent neighborhood boasts only Hollywood A-listers as buyers and owners of penthouses. Just south of the coffee plant building lies the River Loft condo units, valued at $11 million. The previous owners of the penthouses in the River Loft building have been Chris Martin, Meryl Streep, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Considering its prime location, the Tribeca house is a prized catch with Hudson river views and hobnobbing with wealthy neighbors.

According to Town and Country Magazine, the Renaissance-style loft building’s main entrance is inspired by the Maison de Verre in Paris. The living room is designed over 1,500 square feet, and the interior follows a black and gold theme with exquisite wall paintings strategically placed at different levels and rooms. The eat-in kitchen, living room, and dining room are on the uppermost floors. The skyline view from this area is unhindered and striking due to the 12 feet high ceilings. The gourmet-styled kitchen is equipped with modern appliances and muted tiles featuring the backsplash. The goth-inspired dining area is decorated with eccentric patterns on the wall and earthy-tone furniture. A passage leads to a large wine cellar and a great roof deck for entertainment.

The bedrooms are on the lower floors of the colossal building, and there is also a staff bedroom and bath in the laundry room. The main suite has a separate bathroom located across a flight of stairs. Two guest rooms on the third floor are equipped with a spacious walk-in closet and luxurious marble private baths. A media room and reading area are located at the house's core. They are done in business-style decor with hardwood floors and posh leather upholstered walls. Velvet sofas and winged chairs with soft cushions adorn the reading room. The middle level is equipped with a state-of-the-art gym and a relaxing sauna.

Drexler has put up this private residence for sale at a whopping $30 million. In 2022 it was reduced to $27.5 million before being delisted from the market. It is currently back on the market for $29.9 million under relator Deborah Grubman of Corcoran.
