Kim Kardashian Mocked Over Alien-Themed SKIMS Campaign
Kim Kardashian recently unveiled an alien-themed campaign for SKIMS, but the Internet can’t get over the timing of the launch, which had made the campaign the butt of many jokes.
Earlier this month, the reality star released a series of images from a photoshoot for SKIMS’ upcoming swimwear collection, which is being advertised as their “biggest launch ever.”
In the images, Kim and a variety of models can be seen rocking the swimwear, which includes a variety of neon pieces. But it’s not the swimwear that’s got everyone talking. It’s the fact that Kim had the background models dawn alien masks in the photoshoot.
Many of the images show Kim front and center (without a mask) but surrounded by intergalactic models.
Kim played up the alien themed in the caption of an Instagram post revealing the photos. "I know you guys have been waiting… @SKIMS Swim is finally coming back!” she wrote. “Get ready for our biggest launch ever with all-new out of this world styles and colors you have to see to believe, plus the return of sold-out favorites on February 21.”
The collection will feature 25 different pieces – 11 tops, 8 bottoms, and 5 one-piece swimsuits. The items will be available in seven colors in sizes XXS to 4X.
The reaction to the new SKIMS campaign has been mixed. While many are excited for the swimwear to launch – SKIMS products are infamous for selling out immediately – others couldn’t get past the timing of the launch.
In recent weeks, there have been numerous claims of UFO spottings across the United States and Canada. Some folks accused Kim of trying to take advantage of the moment.
“All these UFOS shot down to prep us for the skims swim launch, it all makes sense now,” one person commented on Kim’s IG post.
Another person wrote, “Kimmy rescued some of the aliens before their UFO got shot down…protect ET at all costs.”
“On the next episode of the Kardashians, Kim: ‘Mom, the government literally shot down my SKIMS drones. Like, they were just a promo!'” a different comment jokingly said.
This may be SKIMS most unusual campaign concept, but it’s hardly the first time they’ve made headlines for their ads. For Valentine’s Day, the company took advantage of the hype around White Lotus and hired two newcomers from the second season, Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Grannò, to star in their own campaign.
