Kim Kardashian’s Unfiltered Face Causes Backlash For Her SKKN Skincare Line

Kim Kardashian has a number of brands to her name, from her SKIMS clothing and swimwear line to her KKW Beauty collection. However, not all her business ventures have been as successful as each other, and her skincare line hasn’t been as well received as she likely hoped.

Last month, an Instagram post made by the account @Beauty.False posted a video featuring a variety of celebrities with unfiltered skin, including Kim, Kylie Jenner, and Avril Lavigne.

Many of the comments expressed appreciation for the post for helping to normalize natural skin texture, and for challenging the assumption that celebrities all have perfect skin, despite what we see in edited photos and videos.

But some of the comments specifically targeted Kim. Not only is The Kardashians star infamous for heavily editing her content, but she’s credited her own skincare line SKKN for giving her a smooth texture, though the video proves her skin isn’t so perfect in real life.

Some critics even suggested it’s false advertising when Kim says she uses her products but then filter or edits her photos to make her skin appear smoother than it is.

"Thanks for showing that even Kim’s skincare line doesn’t do [expletive,]" one person wrote, Yahoo News notes. "No shade, but why spend hundreds of dollars on something that doesn’t give you the airbrushed version of what she is showing us?"

Kim launched SKKN under a year ago in June 2022, explaining that her long-time struggle with psoriasis inspired her to start the line.

"I knew I had to share my learnings," she said at the time. "Fueled by years of gathered insights, SKKN BY KIM's science-backed formulas work together to reactivate skin's inner potential and inspire confidence."

The original SKKN collection includes a foaming cleanser, a toner, an exfoliator, two serums, two oils, and two creams. The prices for products range between $43 to $95, although the bottles are designed to be refilled after their finished, and refills are slightly cheaper than buying an entirely new product.

So far, Kim hasn’t responded to the recent controversy over her skincare line, and it’s unclear if the criticism has affected sales. Considering that her KKW Beauty line was once estimated to be worth $1 billion (and it’s now going through a rebranding), it doesn’t seem that Kim’s businesses are financially suffering at the moment.
