A Peek Inside Hollywood Legend Robert De Niro's Real Estate Portfolio

The world has watched Robert De Niro's acting career blossom into a shining example of longevity and craftsmanship over the years, starting with his early roles in the 1960s with movies such Greetings, where he collaborated with director Brian De Palma. As of 2023, De Niro's net worth is maintained at a steady $500 million, but if you think that's the sum of money accumulated purely from sixty years of acting, you're surely mistaken. At 79 years old, the classic A-list actor has his hands in other streams of income, like the string of celebrity restaurant chains he co-owns with his partner and Japanese chef, Nobu Matsuhisa. De Niro, like most other wealthy celebrities, is also a real estate enthusiast with an impressive collection of businesses and homes. Let's take a closer look at Robert De Niro's real estate collection.

Despite being recognized around the world as one of the best actors in Hollywood, the Casino actor prefers to keep his personal business private, choosing rather to live a more reserved life. But although he would choose the simplicity of family life over wild Hollywood mansion parties, the places he decides to call home are far from modest. One of those homes is a New York estate located in Gardiner which he purchased in 1997 for $1.5 million, according to AmoMama. It would make sense that he would own a property in New York since it's the state in which he was born. This home is just one of the many properties he owns in the New York area.

De Niro's 2,222-square-foot home sits atop a sprawling 98 acres of land, which seems to be about enough for himself and his many children and grandchildren. The reason for such a large spread of land was because the original 18-century wood-frame structure was once a farmhouse. But no one can picture this New York native in a pair of expensive cowboy boots chasing horses and cattle. So, after buying it, he renovated it to include six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, then turned a barn into a massive recreation center inclusive of a boxing room, game room, gym, basketball court, swimming pool, sauna, and a small film studio.

On the property can also be found two guest houses for when he decides to invite his acting buddy Al Pacino over for a movie audition, as well as a tennis court, a ski slope, and an office and workshop space that were converted from being barns. By the time De Niro finished making all the additions, the entire property was assessed at $6 million.

This next home, located in a village at the east end of Long Island called Montauk, has a bit of family history tied into it. It was fairly easy for De Niro to catch the creative bug as his father, Robert Henry De Niro, was an established abstract expressionist painter in New York, and often traveled to Montauk to retreat from the bustle of the city. He eventually bought a house in Montauk, which he left for his son after he passed away in 1993.

While there isn't much information that can be found on the aesthetics of the home, which is just how the elusive Robert De Niro likes it, we learned from 27 East that the 2,278-square-foot home sits on 1.5 acres of beachfront property with roughly 740 square feet of decking. In 2017, the ambitious actor filed an application with the East Hampton’s Zoning Board of Appeals to have the home demolished in order to build a larger house spanning 2,554-square-feet. However, his request to rebuild was denied by the board, an outcome that prompted De Niro to sue, although that attempt was unsuccessful. Despite having an 1950s design, the home is still worth an estimated $8 million.

We told you Mr. De Niro owned more than one property in New York, and this one is by far the most expensive. According to Velvet Ropes, the Dirty Grandpa actor who co-starred with former Disney star Zac Efron used to inhabit the coveted penthouse in 2012. Its location in the Greenwich Village area is what really led to the exorbitant price, in addition to the 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathrooms, and 11,000-square-foot living space that the pad features.

Between the size and the architecture, this was truly a gem in the heart of West Village. The spacious interior also features floor-to-ceiling windows that really accentuate the two-story foyer and offers a broad overview of the interior courtyard below. The landscape terraces also provide a beautiful view of the Hudson River and the city skyline. The interior of the home also includes a library, home office, media room, dining room, a living room fireplace, and an outdoor seating area.

The pristine pad also has a 3,000-square-foot garage that can hold up to seven cars, although De Niro isn't as big of a car collector as Harrison Ford, so he wouldn't need that much space. In 2015, he originally placed the penthouse back on the market for $39.5 million, but lowered it to $22.995 million in April 2020. It eventually sold for $18 million.

More than likely, the Academy Award Winning actor owns many other homes across the globe that we may never know of, because as a businessman, he tries to keep his  business private. But with a net worth of $500 million, De Niro can have any home in the world he wants!
