Britney Spears Must Pay More Child Support If Her Sons Move To Hawaii
Britney Spears’ sons are apparently moving to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline, so they’ll be spending even less time with their famous mother than ever. However, that doesn’t mean Britney’s child support bill is going down. In fact, she’ll reportedly have to pay even more if her boys move out of state.
According to Page Six, Hawaii is one of few American states that has extended child support laws, and can require it up until the child in question turns 23-years old. This has led to an outcry online amongst Britney Spears fans, who accused Kevin of intentionally choosing to relocate to Hawaii so he can get more money from his ex-wife.
“He’s doing this because the courts can force her to pay child support up to the age of 23 in Hawaii,” one person wrote on Twitter. Another person added, “Kevin desperately wanting to move to Hawaii is definitely child support related.”
Kevin and Britney share two teenage sons, Sean, 17, and Jayden, 16. The former couple divorced in 2007, and Kevin went on to obtain full custody of their boys the following year. Though their custody agreement has been adjusted various times through the years, Britney has continued to pay child support to her ex-husband.
Kevin reportedly requested Britney’s permission via his lawyer to relocate their sons to Hawaii last month. Kevin’s wife has been offered a job at the University of Hawaii.
Britney is apparently granting the request without a challenge. It’s largely speculated that her sons’ reluctance to see her in-person motivated her to agree with the move. One report claims she hasn’t seen her boys in over a year.
Sean and Jayden have reportedly refused to see Britney since 2022, largely over her social media posts as well as tenuous relationship with her extended family.
Last year, Jayden gave his first public interview alongside his father, where he criticized his mother’s parenting skills.
“I think Mom has struggled giving us both attention and showing us equal love; I don’t think she showed enough to Preston, and I feel really bad for that,” Jayden told the Daily Mail.
To this, Kevin added, I try to explain to them, ‘Look, maybe that’s just another way she tries to express herself.’ But that doesn’t take away from the fact of what it does to them,” the DJ continued. “It’s tough. I can’t imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school.”
It's unclear how much Britney is currently paying in child support. But should her sons move to Hawaii, she may be paying a lot longer than past their 18th birthdays.
