Kanye West Is Working On A New Album, Which Could Save His Dwindling Net Worth
Kanye West’s net worth has been on the decline since his career went into a downward spiral beginning last year amid his controversial behavior. But Ye could be making a lot of money soon, as he’s reportedly working on a new album.
Chicago rapper Rooga, who’s been a long-time friend of Kanye and was featured on “Ok,OK” from Kanye’s Donda album, confirmed in a recent interview that Ye is back in the studio.
“He’s working on an album,” he told Adam22 on the No Jumper podcast.
Though Rooga was pressed for more details on when fans can expect Kanye’s new album, it declined to comment further.
Kanye released his last album Donda 2 in 2022, but to a lot of controversy, as he only made it available on his stem player, thereby boycotting streaming services, including Spotify and Apple.
In an Instagram post, Ye explained that money was the motive, arguing artists aren’t paid equitably when going through streaming services.
“Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes,” he wrote. "It's time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time take control and build your own.”
When Donda 2 became available, it was only accessible through the Stem Player, which was a collab between Kanye’s Yeezy Tech brand and Kano, a UK start-up. The device cost $200 USD. The device was designed to allow users to listen to their music on-the-go while also having the ability to remix and edit them.
Kanye’s decision appeared profitable, as reports said that he made over $2 million within a day of his initial announcement.
It’s unclear if Ye will release his future album exclusively on the Stem Player or it’ll be available le on streaming services. Kanye’s older music remains available to stream on music platforms, including Spotify.
Kanye has been experiencing a variety of financial fallout since last year, so he may hope a new album could help his net worth.
After Adidas pulled the plug on its long-time collaboration with Yeezy, Forbes revealed Kanye no longer qualified as a billionaire. He’s also been hit with a series of lawsuits, including a $250 million defamation case filed by George Floyd’s family and a million-dollar lawsuit launched by his former manager for wrongful termination.
