Margot Robbie Paid Off Her Mom’s Mortgage With First Big Acting Paycheck

Margot Robbie is one of the most successful actresses in the world, and that’s not just because of the ongoing Barbie phenomenon. Margot has been consistently landing huge roles in recent years, which has helped her amass a reported net worth of $40 million.

The Babylon star recently revealed what she did with her first big pay check – and no, she didn’t spend it on herself.

Right before being cast in 2013’s Wolf of Wall street, Margot finally felt like her career was taking off, and financially it was showing. The first thing she felt compelled to do with her new wealth was pay off her mom’s mortgage.

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, Margot explained that her mom remortgaged her house to lend her money early in her career. So as soon as she was able to, Margot didn’t just want to repay the money, she wanted to make her mother’s mortgage go away forever.

"Everything I owed my mom, I had it written down. She'd take money out of the, like, house mortgage [to] lend me money. So I always knew, I was like, 'I gotta pay that back,'” Margot said.

“And then one day, when I made enough money, I just paid that whole mortgage off completely,” she continued.

"I was like, 'Mom, don't even worry about that mortgage anymore. It doesn't even exist anymore,'” Margot went on. "Honestly, anyone in my position, you'd do that for your mom. Of course you would."

Margot went on to say she feels “so grateful” and “lucky” for the career she currently has.

"I know I'm hardworking and blah, blah, blah, but I'm also the luckiest, luckiest, luckiest person in the world," she continued. "Every time that I did something I was like, 'Now it's the top. It will never get better than this.' And then somehow it's just kept getting better and better.”

Margot’s star power has only increased since the release of Barbie. Not only does she play the titular character, but Margot also produced the film, which was directed by Greta Gerwig.

Barbie is on track to becoming one of the biggest films of the summer and perhaps even the year. On its opening weekend, Barbie brought in $162 million, which was double what it is competitor Oppenheimer brought in, despite being released on the same weekend.
