The Highest Grossing Shia LaBeouf Movies, Ranked

Even the most successful and talented actors have their own personal issues that they're struggling to overcome, and the former Transformers film franchise superstar is no exception. His upbringing was far from peaches and cream and, like other celebrities who grew up poor or in less than ideal circumstances, he used the need to better his situation as the fuel to drive his acting career. The result was nothing short of brilliant, as the Los Angeles actor quickly rose to stardom, rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood's most prominent names, such as the veteran actor Harrison Ford, Grammy Award winning actress Sigourney Weaver, The Matrix film series star actress Carrie-Anne Moss, and a host of others. At just 37 years old, here are Shia LaBeouf's highest-grossing movies.

As Hollywood's history has taught us, it's not every Disney Channel child star that has a smooth transition into commercial film acting. But the sun seemed to shine on LaBeouf, because he was only 24 when he reprised the lead role of Sam Witwicky in Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011. Directed again by Michael Bay, the science fiction film picks up from where it left off from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) with an apocalyptic war between Autobots and Decepticons in an earth-shattering battle to obtain powerful ancient technology stationed on the Moon. Only it's going to take help from the human race to bring back Cybertron on Earth. The film also featured actor and singer Tyrese Gibson and actor/racer Patrick Dempsey and grossed $1.1 billion at the box office.

When it comes to a film franchise, you know whether or not it's going to be a success by how the first installment is received, which is mainly reflected at the box office. So when Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released in 2009 and out-performed its predecessor from, Transformers (2007), by grossing $836 million worldwide, it was only up from there. LaBeouf stars alongside the famous Megan Fox, as they work together with the leader of the Autobots, Megatron (voiced by actor Hugo Weaving), to stop the Decepticons from taking revenge on Earth by destroying the Sun and the entire planet in the process.

Shia LaBeouf continued to impress fans and celebrities alike with his high-energy acting performances and quick-wit. One year after the hundred-million-dollar success of Transformers, he was chosen to act alongside the lead actor Harrison Ford in director Steven Spielberg's 2008 action adventure film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Secret Skull, which grossed $786 million globally. At the time, he was still young enough to play the role of the son of Indiana Jones, Mutt Williams, and his former lover, Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen, which was revealed later on in the film. Williams informs Jones that his old friend and surrogate father, Harold Oxley (John Hurt), found a crystal skull in Peru, prompting them to travel there. Together, they unearth the mystifying, alien origin of the crystal skull with the help of Soviet scientist, Irina Spalko, played by actress Cate Blanchett.

Although it wasn't his breakout film, LaBeouf rose to even higher heights of stardom after taking the lead role in the first Transformers film which was released in 2007. The idea for the film came about after the producer, Don Murphy, was interested in developing a G.I Joe film, but changed his mind after finding fresh inspiration when the United States went to war with Iraq in 2003. This is where LaBeouf's character, Sam Witwicky, is unintentionally ushered into the civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons after purchasing his first vehicle, which is an Autobot named Bumblebee, disguised as a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro. Sam must now collaborate with the Autobots to find the AllSpark, which is the source of life for their planet, Cybertronian. If not, the Decepticons will find it and destroy the Autobots, then conquer the universe. Other actors include former model Josh Duhamel, actor/comedian Anthony Anderson, and Jon Voight.

I-Robot is among LaBeouf's earliest commercial films and, although he wasn't in a lead role, his scenes are poignant and unforgettable. The science fiction action movie was released in 2004, just one year after LaBeouf made his film debut in Holes alongside Sigourney Weaver and accomplished actress Patricia Arquette. The young spectacle proved that his worth and at 18 years old was starring beside an A-list actors like Will Smith, Bruce Greenwood, and James Cromwell. The movie is frighteningly similar to what we see happening in our modern world with the rise of artificial intelligence and humanoid robots, such as Sophia the AI Robot. Nevertheless, the film was a success, grossing $348 million against a budget of $120 million.

One would presume that either LaBeouf was being groomed for Hollywood from his teenage years, or his acting talent was truly on another level, as the reason why he was rubbing shoulders in movies with elite actors at such as young age. According to Insider, while the sixteen-year-old was still establishing himself as a rising actor on Disney's Even Steven's, he played the role of Max in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, an orphan boy who the Angels are protecting after his parents testified against the Irish mob. The action comedy was released in 2000 and stars the coquettish actress Cameron Diaz, actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, comedian/actor Bill Murray, and English actor Tim Curry. Against a budget of $93 million, the film grossed $227 million at the worldwide box office.

It would appear to onlookers that LaBeouf may be mercurial because of the diverse range of roles he seemed to easily slip into. In 2005, while clearly making a name for himself in the film entertainment industry, he starred alongside The Matrix series superhero, Keanu Reeves, in the horror film Constantine. Reeves was in his prime as he had recently starred in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions films in 2003, which kept his name buzzing and attracted fans. In this movie, he plays the role of an occult expert and exorcist named John Constantine who is chronic smoker battling lung cancer - quite paradoxical. LaBeouf plays Chas Kramer, Constantine's driver and apprentice, but is killed by the "hybrid" Archangel Gabriel, played by actress Tilda Swinton, who plans to unleash the spirit of Mammon to create Hell on Earth because of God's love for humanity and forgiveness for the wicked. The film grossed $221 million worldwide.

Despite his early rise to fame and fortune marked by consecutive years of commercially successful movies, LaBeouf began to encounter legal troubles later on in his acting career. In 2014, he was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and criminal trespassing, but only plead guilty to disorderly conduct. Around the same time, he co-starred with Bullet Train star Brad Pitt in the American war film, Fury. The film was set in Nazi Germany during the end of World War II and is centered around a M4 Medium tank nicknamed Fury, commanded by Don "Wardaddy" Collier (Brad Pit). LaBeouf plays a tank gunner named Boyd "Bible" Swan, along with other members of his veteran crew such as Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman), Grady Travis (Jon Bernthal), and Trini Garcia (Michael Peña). Together, they advance into German territory to immobilize Nazi forces.
