Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom Could Lose $15 Million Mansion After Seller Calls It Unlawful
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom sealed the deal on a $15 million mansion years ago in 2020, but they may not be calling it home for much longer, as the seller has launched a lawsuit, claiming the sale was unlawful due to the influence of painkillers.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, 83-year-old veteran and businessman Carl Wescott is behind the case, which is set to go to non-jury trial later this year.
In his filing, Wescott argued “that he lacked the mental capacity to understand the nature and probable consequences of the contract” due to a variety of health problems. He also points out that he was on painkillers following a surgery at the time he signed the house sale.
“In addition to [Westcott’s] frailty from advanced age and poor heath [sic] from Huntington’s Disease, [Westcott] had a major six-hour surgery less than a week before the proposed contract to sell his home was presented to him on July 14, 2020,” court documents alleged.
“The multiple opiate medications, which were a synthetic form of morphine, disoriented and intoxicated [Westcott], depriving him of reason and understanding with respect to the terms and consequences of the contract, and seriously impaired [Westcott’s] mental faculties to the point he was of unsound mind and not competent to give his free, voluntary, or intelligent consent to the contract,” the lawsuit continues. “The contract that [Westcott] signed to sell his home is therefore void or voidable.”
Wescott said that he realized he didn’t want to sell the home before the deal was officialised, and expressed this to Katy and Orlando. But he claims he then received a letter from the couple’s attorney threatening legal action if he didn’t move forward with the sale, as promised.
“On July 24, 2020, Mr. Westcott received a letter from a lawyer. The letter stated, in sum and substance, that the lawyer represented not only [business manager] Mr. [Bernie] Gudvi, but also Mr. Orlando Bloom and Ms. Katheryn Hudson (professionally known as Katy Perry) on whose behalf Mr. Gudvi had always been acting,” the court filing continues.
“The letter advised Mr. Westcott that his clients Mr. Bloom and Ms. Hudson are not willing to walk away from purchasing Mr. Westcott’s home and he is obligated to complete the sale,” it went on.
So far, Katy and Orlando haven’t released a statement directly addressing the lawsuit. But it’s suspected the couple may need to appear in court during the ongoing case.
