Kim Kardashian Called “Tone Deaf” For Promoting Expensive Prenuvo MRI Scan
Kim Kardashian has highlighted many products during her career, but her latest promotional post is getting her in trouble with fans. Last Tuesday, the reality star shared a post to her Instagram feed promoting the pricey Prenuvo body scan machine, which costs $2,500 and can detect a range of health issues.
Kim shared a photo of herself in scrubs while sitting on the machine. In the caption, she urged her followers to look into getting the scan privately done for themselves.
“I recently did this @prenuvo scan and had to tell you all about this life saving machine,” she wrote, tagging Prenuvo in the post. “The Prenuvo full-body scan has the ability to detect cancer and diseases such as aneurysms in its earliest stages, before symptoms arise.”
She continued, “It was like getting a MRI for an hour with no radiation. It has really saved some of my friends lives and I just wanted to share.”
While Kim may have thought her post was innocent, albeit promotional, the caption didn’t resonate well with fans, many of whom called her tone-deaf in the comments for promoting such a pricey product to the masses.
“This is SO tone deaf. the majority of people in America could not afford to use this machine,” one person wrote. “The fact that she’s promoting medical devices that cost thousands is so ridiculous.”
Another person said, “Bragging about the ability to have good healthcare is wild,” while a different comment added, “Love a billionaire recommending preventative care that is totally inaccessible to 98% of your fan base, total vibe.”
“Kim, this is for wealthy people. People can’t afford food right now,” another comment read.
“I’m a fan of the Kardashians but Kim shut the f–k up. Most people can’t afford to go to urgent care. This is so f–king tone-deaf,” one comment said.
Although Kim included #NotAnAd at the end of her post, the SKIMS founder reportedly makes a pretty penny for single social media posts. One report claims Kim can make up to $1.6 million for a single post on her Instagram, where she has 363 million followers.
It’s possible she benefited from this collaboration in some way, even if not finically. At the very least, Kim’s scan was likely free of charge in exchange for a shout-out online.
Given how controversial this post ended up being amongst Kim’s fans, hopefully whatever she received in exchange made the collab worth it.
