Ryan Gosling Got A Surprisingly Low Pay For ‘Barbie’ As It Makes A Billion At Box Office

Margot Robbie is reportedly making $50 million for her role in Barbie, but the same can’t be said for her co-star Ryan Gosling. According to various report, the actor made $12.5 million for his role as Ken. While this may be less than what Margot is reportedly making, it’s on part for Ryan’s usual pay.

One source says the actor makes an average annual salary of $16 million per year, and usually has one or two big roles. For example, he earned $10 million for 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 and $6.5 million for 2018’s First Man.

However, Ryan’s Barbie salary was originally a point of contention, since it was initially reported that Margot was making the same, even though she has a larger role in the film.

The actress was given $12.5 million to join the project as the lead actress. However, she’s since quadrupled her earnings from the film since it’s been so successful at the box office and Margot had a stake as executive producer.

As per various reports, Margot stands to make $50 million over all between her salary and bonuses. The movie, which landed in theatres on July 21, made $162 million on its opening weekend, and so far has grossed over $1.1 billion annually.

This will also more than double Margot’s net worth, as she’s currently valued at $40 million.

Recently, the Wolf of Wall Street star reflected on a time when she wasn’t doing so well financially in Hollywood and had to rely on her mom’s help. Years later, when she did make it big, she repaid her mom in a major way.

"Everything I owed my mom, I had it written down. She'd take money out of the, like, house mortgage [to] lend me money. So I always knew, I was like, 'I gotta pay that back,'” Margot told CBS Sunday Morning.

“And then one day, when I made enough money, I just paid that whole mortgage off completely,” she continued. "I was like, 'Mom, don't even worry about that mortgage anymore. It doesn't even exist anymore.”

Ryan may not have made as much as Margot for Barbie, but considering the film is on it’s way to being a cult classic thanks to its breakthrough success, it’s likely that he’s happy to have signed onto the project when he did.
