Wonder Woman 1984 Release Date Pushed Back Until August

Wonder Woman 1984 has become the latest cinematic casualty of the coronavirus outbreak as its release date has been delayed by two months.

Almost every aspect of everyone's lives has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. It's certainly not something Hollywood was prepared for. Whether it be projects in production or completed movies slated to be released, pretty much everything has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. No Time To Die was the first to do so and started something of a domino effect.

Other movies that should have been theaters now or very soon which will now not be released until a later date are Black Widow, Mulan, and A Quiet Place 2. Wonder Woman 1984 can now be added to that list, reports Vox. Warner Bros. has revealed that the DCEU sequel, which was supposed to be released at the beginning of June, will now not hit theaters until at least August 14, 2020.

"When we greenlit Wonder Woman 1984, it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and we are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theaters on Aug. 14," the statement reads. That suggests Warner Bros. won't even be entertaining the idea of releasing the movie on VOD. Marvel fans have suggested that be done with Black Widow, but that doesn't look likely either.

It's interesting to see how far ahead movie studios are looking both in terms of upcoming release dates and when those dates are being rescheduled for. No Time To Die's release date was moved to November, Black Widow's postponed indefinitely, and Warner Bros. feels confident enough that theaters will be running as normal again by August.

Movies that are a part of the MCU and DCEU are under more pressure than others. What happens in those movies directly affects other movies that already have release dates, so they need to come out before the next chapter in their respective universes. Should both be continually pushed back, it could result in both the MCU and DCEU calendars being altered drastically over the coming years.
