The Mandalorian Season 3 Is Already In Development

The second season of The Mandalorian might be six months away, but work has already begun on season three.

Disney+ launched in the US in October 2019, and has since launched elsewhere in the world, and needed something big to kick things off. Some might say a library of movies and TV shows stretching all the way back to the 1930s would be enough, but no. It also needed brand new original content and it delivered on that front on day one.

It did that via the release of the first season of The Mandalorian. A Star Wars spin-off following the exploits of a bounty hunter after the fall of The Empire. Star Wars fans are typically the easiest to split, with each having differing opinions on various movies and characters. However, The Mandalorian might be the first thing in the franchise's history to unite them all.

Disney+'s first original TV show was a huge hit. So much so that a second season was confirmed shortly after the first came to an end. It will air week-by-week on Disney+ this October. What's more, there have been reports this week that although The Mandalorian's second season won't see the light of day for another six months, work has already started on season three.

According to Variety, the show's creator Jon Favreau has already started working on a script for the third season. What's more, there have also been reports that Lucasfilm's executive director has been working on concept art for the show for the past few weeks. Very early stages, of course, but more than we would have thought was being done considering how far in advance it is of the show being shot, edited, and released on Disney+.

As for what else Disney+ subscribers have to look forward to, should all things go to plan, its first MCU TV show, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, will hit the streaming platform this summer. Due to the fact Black Widow, and hence the rest of the MCU's upcoming movies, has had its release date pushed back, there's a chance the TV shows get the same treatment. It all depends on how much they all tie-in to each other.
