New Wonder Woman 1984 Poster Sports Further Delayed Release Date

A new poster released for Wonder Woman 1984 shows off the movie's new release date. It's the second time the date has had to be moved.

Since most movie theaters are currently closed and have been for the past three months, studios have understandably seen no point in releasing movies. No one wants to hold the unfortunate record of releasing a movie that makes nothing at the box office. As infamous as that movie would likely become, there's probably no coming back from that.

That has led to some serious reshuffling of Hollywood's film schedule. Whether it be James Bond's No Time To Die, Marvel's Black Widow, or SpongeBob SquarePants' Sponge On The Run, no one is safe. The first two of those movies saw their release dates shifted until the end of 2020, and poor old SpongeBob will skip theaters altogether and head straight to on-demand services.

DC's Wonder Woman 1984 is another blockbuster whose release has been pushed. Warner Bros. originally rescheduled the much-anticipated sequel for August 12, 2020. Not knowing the effects of the pandemic would last as long as they have at that point, of course. Even though it seems as if a lot of movie theaters will have reopened by then, WW 1984's release date has been pushed back for a second time.

The latest installment in the DCEU will now not see the light of day until October 2, 2020. The new release date has been flaunted in all its glory via the new poster for the movie above which was released over the weekend. Chances are even though theaters will have mostly reopened by August, Warner Bros. would prefer to have the lay of the land in regard to what going to the cinema will look like, and hope restrictions have been loosened further by October.

Even though Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman has shown up in present-day DCEU movies, her latest solo outing will be set during the 1980s. Diana's backstory hasn't been told in its entirety yet and considering the success of the first movie, it's a story worth telling. After WW 1984, the next installment in the DCEU will be the sequel to Suicide Squad, which will be more of a clean slate than a follow-on. That is still scheduled to hit theaters in 2021.
