[Report] Dak Prescott & Cowboys Are Willing To Drag Out Contract Talks

The Dallas Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Dak Prescott back in March, but the two sides still haven't reached an agreement on a long-term deal.
And Cowboys fans shouldn't expect Prescott to do so any time in the immediate future.
According to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler (h/t Garrett Stepien of 247Sports), the 26-year-old Prescott and the Cowboys "are both ready to drag this out to the July 15 franchise tag deadline if that's the way it's going to be."
July 15, as Fowler noted, is the last day where teams can sign players under the franchise tag to a long-term contract. Fowler added that things have been "slow," and multiple executives think Prescott could get around $35 million annually "on the four-year deal he covets."
The NFL quarterback market has gone up rapidly over the past five years. Per Spotrac.com, there are nine quarterbacks who are playing under deals worth $100-million plus.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan signed the richest NFL contract ever in the 2018 offseason; a five-year deal worth a whopping $150 million. Russell Wilson, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Wentz, Derek Carr and Ryan Tannehill are also under contracts worth $100 million-plus.
Prescott, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes will easily surpass $100 million on their new deals, and all three could very well surpass Ryan's record $150 million.
Two weeks ago, it was reported that the Cowboys offered Prescott a five-year deal worth a record $175 million. However, that report was denied by both the team and Prescott's agent.

Through his first four NFL seasons, Prescott has compiled a 40-24 record with 15,778 passing yards and 97 touchdowns against 36 interceptions. He has led Dallas to three winning seasons and two NFC East division titles (2016 and 2018).
The Cowboys drafted promising wideout prospect CeeDee Lamb to join an offense that already includes Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. Super Bowl XLV champion Mike McCarty replaced Jason Garrett as the new head coach.
Now, the last order of business is to figure out a long-term deal with No. 4. The clock is ticking as they try to reach a long-term deal.
