[Report] ESPN Reached Out To Sean McVay About Joining "Monday Night Football"
ESPN reportedly eyed one of the NFL's top head coaches for a Monday Night Football gig.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, ESPN "talked to" Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay about an analyst position for Monday Night Football.
McVay, unsurprisingly, decided to continue coaching the Rams, who've recorded three straight winning seasons ever since he came aboard in 2017. However, Marchand noted that the network "would be interested in having" McVay if he chooses to stop coaching.
Of course, there are zero indications that the 34-year-old McVay wants to leave coaching.
ESPN is going with Steve Levy, Louis Riddick and Brian Griese (the latter two are former NFL players) as their Monday Night Football broadcast team for 2020. This will be the program's fourth different broadcast team in six years.
Mike Tirico left ESPN to join NBC Sports after the 2016 season. He was replaced by Sean McDonough, who spent two seasons in the MNF booth with Jon Gruden. However, McDonough left after the 2017 season and chose to call only college games, and Gruden returned to coaching, signing a $100 million contract with the Raiders.

Joe Tessitore replaced McDonough as the lead play-by-play voice, with former NFLers Jason Witten and Booger McFarland being hired as analysts. However, Witten decided to resume his playing career after one season in retirement. Tessitore and McFarland were both reassigned by the network.
ESPN reportedly offered five-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Peyton Manning an analyst role, but the future Hall of Fame inductee turned it down.
The network was reportedly prepared to make a lucrative offer to former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who joined CBS as an NFL analyst in 2017, where he works with top play-by-play man Jim Nantz.. However, Romo wound up signing a new deal with CBS that will reportedly play him around $17 million per year.
