The Crown Season 4 Returns To Netflix On November 15

The Crown season 4 will finally return to Netflix on November 15, exactly a year after season 3 aired. Season 3 covered the events that took place between 1964 and 1977, starting with Harold Wilson's election as prime minister and ending with the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II.

Other events during this time period included the Apollo 11 moon landing, the 1969 Investiture of Prince Charles, the death of the Duke of Windsor, the death and state funeral of Winston Churchill, and Princess Margaret's affair with Roddy Llewellyn and suicide attempt, which led to her divorce from Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1978.

Naturally, the new season will introduce Princess Diana, who will be played by Emma Corrin, and Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who will be played by Gillian Anderson. The series will also focus on the tensions that arise between the Prime Minister and the Queen as she leads the country into the Falklands War, creating conflict within the Commonwealth.

Olivia Colman who returns as Queen Elizabeth says at the beginning of the trailer, "Something as important as the monarchy simply cannot be allowed to fail," which sets the tone for the events to follow. The series will also reintroduce Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles, who will lead to tension between the newly married Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Claire Foy is set to return to the role of Queen Elizabeth II for a flashback scene in the fourth season. The Crown has been a hit for Netflix and won several award nominations, including Primetime Emmy Awards for Claire Foy, director Stephen Daldry, and Golden Globes for Olivia Colman and Claire Foy, as well as, Best Series.

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported 89% approval for the first season, based on 71 reviews with an average rating of 8.77/10. Its critical consensus reads, "Powerful performances and lavish cinematography make The Crown a top-notch production worthy of its grand subject." On Metacritic, the series holds a score of 81 out of 100, based on 29 critics, indicating "universal acclaim."
