Jason Momoa Might Replace Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson In The Fast And Furious Franchise

This year is setting up to be a dynamic one for Aquaman star, Jason Momoa. With the Aquaman sequel scheduled to be released in December 2022, fans can anticipate a lot of excitement surrounding the King of Atlantis. In addition, he has recently starred as Duncan Idaho in the sci-fi/adventure film, Dune, which was released in October 2021. The film featured a wonderful collection of acting talent, including Spider-Man's Zendaya, Oscar Isaac from the Star Wars franchise, and Josh Brolin from Marvel's Avengers: Endgame. Earlier in the same year, he appeared as the star lead in Sweet Girl, starring other celebrities like Adria Arjona, Justin Bartha, and Lex Scott-Davis.

However, according to a report from Koimoi, Momoa may be offered a role in one of the most famous and successful movie franchises in modern times - The Fast and Furious franchise. Set to be released in 2023, this latest installment will make it the 10th movie series to be released.

But what would make Universal Pictures want to add another character to their already tight-knit family of actors? The newest official member of the Fast and Furious crew was Jason Statham who came onboard as Deckard in Fast and Furious 6 (2013). Taken from The Hollywood Reporter, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has opted out of the filming of Fast 10 due to ongoing hostility between him and Vin Diesel.

The article goes on to state that one of the movie's main attractions, Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto, wanted Johnson to reprise his role as the tough 'lightning and thunder' cop, Luke Hobbs. But despite his insistence, Johnson made it definitively clear that he will not be returning to the franchise.

The former WWE star went as far as to call Diesel's offer to reprise his role as manipulative. With such an impenetrable defense wall, the search was then on for a new actor with a similar muscular physique and, lo and behold, Jason Momoa was a perfect fit. For now, it's unsure what his actual role will be as an antagonist, protagonist, or a bit of both.

Returning to the screen for certain will be the original Tortto family, which includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Sung Kang, and Vin Diesel, of course. Returning for a reprisal from Fate of The Furious and F9 will also be Charlie Theron. Also returning to the director's chair for Fast and The Furious 10 will be Justin Lin, who will be co-directing with Vin Diesel. Fans will have to wait and see what Hollywood's newest A-list actor will bring to the Fast and Furious production team.
