Luxury Space Cabins Will Be Able To Host Weddings, Other Events

The space tourism industry is rapidly expanding, so much so that events like wedding may soon be able to take place.

Space Perspective – a space tourism company – recently revealed images from its new luxury cabin. Each cabin features space for 8 guests as well as a pilot. It features plush, reclining chairs for the ultimate comfort.

For the ultimate view, the cabins feature 360-degree windows, which use special materials to reduce glare and reflection.

Additionally, the cabins feature a refreshment bars, cabinets for personal storage, and Wi-Fi connections. Guests will be able to live stream their experience. The cabins can also support scientific instruments needed for research projects.

However, the cabins aren’t only meant for guided tours. They can also be reconfigured to host special events, like weddings.

Photos show that the luxe cabins will be lifted into Earth’s upper atmosphere with a giant balloon. For a smooth landing, the cabins feature a ‘splashdown cone’ at their base.

The balloon is only able to reach an altitude of 30 kilometers, which isn’t as high as other space tours. There’s been controversy over whether this constitutes as a true spaceflight For example, Virgin Galactic is able to take folks 50 miles into the air, while Blue Origin can get up to 62 miles, thereby surpassing the international-recognized space border.

Unlike its competitors, Space Perspective is focused on offering guests a luxury experience. The cabins are meant to feel like taking a commercial flight rather than riding a rocket, hence the reliance on a balloon.

With Space Perspective’s cabins, guests won’t experience the weightlessness they may on other space tours, which can be a plus for risk-averse travellers.

There’s already been a lot of interest in Space Perspective’s new cabins. Wio News reports the company has already sold over 600 tickets. A single ticket costs $150,000. If all goes as planned, the cabins will begin taking off for tours from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida by 2024.

Each tour will last 6 hours, with the balloon gradually ascending at 12 miles per hour. The final hour it will spend descending back to Earth’s surface.

Space Perspective was first founded in 2019 by husband-and-wife Jane Poynter and Taber MacCallum. The pair were a part of Biosphere 2, a project that attempted to recreate Earth’s conditions in space. Their history with space travel inspired them to bring the experience to the masses.

“Space Perspective is driven by a desire to share the transformative power of space travel with as many people as possible,” the company’s mission statement explains. “We know from experience that looking down on Planet Earth from space will radically shift one’s perception of our world and our place within it.”

As of now, all of Space Perspective’s tours have been fully booked. It’s unclear if they will be releasing more tickets for new tours anytime soon.
