A Look At The Electrifying Success Story Of Natalie Portman

Israeli-born American actress Natalie Portman is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood who amassed a net worth of $90 million. She is among the most sought after actresses in the industry thanks to her acting skills and beautiful face. She has been a part of the entertainment industry ever since she was a child and she is still thriving in the film industry. Natalie Portman whose real name is Natalie Herschlag was born on June 9, 1981 in Jerusalem. She is the only child of mother Shelley who is American homemaker who currently works as Portman’s agent and father Avner Hershlag who is a gynecologist. Both of her parents are Jewish and her maternal parents are American Jews while paternal grandparents are both Jewish immigrants to Israel. She has lived with her family in Washington, D.C. before heading to relocate to Connecticut when she was seven years old and then finally settling down in Long Island when she was nine years old. During the time when they lived in Washington, Portman attended Smith Jewish Day School in Maryland and then transferred to a Jewish elementary school Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County when they moved to Long Island.

While she was young, she had studied modern dance and ballet at the American Theater Dance Workshop. She has regularly gone to Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts at that time. She described her early life as different from other kids as she was more ambitious and she knew what she liked even at early age. She worked very hard and was a serious kid. When Portman was only 10 years old, she was spotted by Revlon agent while they were at a pizza restaurant. The agent asked if she wanted to be a child model however she turned down the offer. Although she turned down the modeling offer, she used that opportunity to get her acting agent.

When Portman was about eleven years old, she had her first acting audition for the musical off-Broadway Ruthless!, a story about a girl who will do whatever it takes to get the lead role in a school play. At that time, Portman together with Britney Spears were chosen to be the understudies for the selected star Laura Bell Bundy. After six months, Portman went on to audition for Luc Besson's action drama Léon: The Professional where she got the lead role. In order to protect her privacy, she used the maiden name of her paternal grandmother, Portman to be her stage name. She played the role of Mathilda in the 1994 film who is an orphan kid who befriended a middle-aged hitman.

Initially her parents were adamant to let her take the role because of the explicit violent and sexual content of the film’s script however they were convinced by Besson when he the nudity and killings committed by Portman’s character were taken out. Portman also believed that after her violent scenes were removed, there would nothing objectionable about the film. After filming for the film, she went back to school and continued studying however during the summer break of 1994 she filmed for another film titled Developing by Marya Cohn. Portman has balanced her studies and career, she starred in yet another film titled Heat as the suicidal stepdaughter of Al Pacino's character. Since then, Portman had been doing films once annually.

In 1997 she was chosen to play the part of Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars film and began filming immediately. At the time, she was in her senior year in High School and at the time, she had no idea about the film and watched the trilogy before she filmed for the movie. After the movie finished, she was not able to attend the premiere of the film because she had to study for her finals. The film went on to gross about $924 million worldwide which made her a phenomenal global star.

She starred in two more films before laying low in the industry in 2000 as she began attending Harvard University to get her bachelor's degree in psychology. As she really loves acting, she began starring in Broadway drama The Seagull in the summer of 2001 where she co-starred with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The following year, she reprises her role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones which was filmed in London and Sydney during the summer break. When she was asked about balancing her studies and career, she said that she would rather be a smart woman than a star and she does care if her studies ruin her career. She finally graduated from Harvard University in 2003.

After graduating from Harvard, she went on to star in numerous films through-out her career. One of the favorite films she did was The Other Boleyn Girl where she starred with American actress Scarlett Johansson; Portman said that was excited by this rare opportunity to work alongside another actress her age. She went on to direct film as well, and her directorial debut is for the short film titled Eve. She then starred in the psychological horror film Black Swan in 2010 where she trained five to eight hours a day for six months straight for her role. The film was widely successful and made her about $325 million on the box office. She went on to star with Ashton Kutcher in No Strings Attached where she also served as the executive producer.

She went on to do more films and is now among the most commercially successful actress in Hollywood. She has achieved fame and wealth from numerous projects through the years. She has done over fifty films in the entirety of her career and she is now set to reprise her role as Jane Foster in the film Thor: Love and Thunder.
