Offset Sues Ex-Record Label For Trying To Control His Solo Career

Offset has launched a lawsuit against his former record label, Quality Control, for trying to control his solo career.

Migos – a hip-hop trio consisting of Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff – originally released their debut album Young Rich Nation in July through Quality Control and 300 Entertainment.

They released their second album Culture through the two labels, before signing a deal with Motown and Capitol Records in 2017, who they released their third album Culture II with the next year.

Even though Offset hasn’t been signed to Quality Control in years, the rapper is still arguing with the label over his solo material. Though Offset says he bought the right to the music from Quality Control last year, the record label is allegedly preventing him from releasing the content.

Of the January 2021 deal, court documents say, “Offset and Quality Control terminated the Production Agreement with respect to Offset’s solo recording services, and Offset became the sole owner of all rights, title and interest in and to his services as a solo recording artist, entertainer and songwriter.”

Quality Control was reportedly “paid handsomely” to transfer the rights over the Offset.

However, Quality Control is completely denying Offset’s allegations and emphasize that he remains a part of their label.

Not only are the accusations in this lawsuit false, they are totally detached from realty. Offset remains a part of QC,” a representative for the record company told the press.

Earlier this year, Offset released a single called “54321.” However, his court complaint alleges that Quality Control is requesting his current label Motown Records acknowledge their ownership in the single as well as future releases.

“Quality Control persists in asserting that it has an ownership interest in ‘54321’ and, presumably, all Offset’s future solo recordings,” the documents say.

Offset is requesting that a court declare Quality Control has no ownership over his solo career.

The lawsuit is apparently interfering with Offset’s relationship with the two other Migos members, and rumors are floating that the group has broken up. Variety reports that Quavo and Takeoff have been performing as Migos without him and will next take the stage sans Offset on Saturday in Houston. Offset has also unfollowed his group members on social media.
