After Suing His Ex For Harassment, Diplo Wins $1.2 Million
Diplo is a million dollars richer after winning a lawsuit he filed against a woman for harassment and revenge porn.
Prior to his win, the DJ was engaged in a legal battle with an ex-girlfriend, Shelly August, for years. It began in 2020 when she filed for a temporary restraining order, only a month after their relationship ended.
In the filing, Shelly accused Diplo of coercing her into sex and non-consensually distributing sexual content featuring her. She went on to launch a lawsuit against him the following year over the allegations. However, it was eventually dismissed.
Also in 2021, Diplo filed his own lawsuit against Shelly alleging that she harassed him and his loved ones. She allegedly shared his nude photos on social media and sent sexually explicit and abusive messages to the DJ’s family.
This includes threatening messages sent to the mother of Diplo’s child. “Go kill yourself I know I see right through you you’re not gorgeous,” one of the texts read (though Shelly denies sending it).
“[Shelly is a] relentless and unstable fan who manipulated herself into,” court documents from Diplo’s lawsuit alleged.
Diplo – who has maintained that Shelly’s allegations are false – additionally got a temporary restraining order against her. However, she later violated the court order.
“As this Complaint makes clear, my client and his family have been harassed, stalked and abused by Ms. Auguste for far too long,” Diplo’s manager stated after the restraining order was approved.
“And it’s time for the courts to step in and put an end to her appalling and dangerous behavior,” the manager continued.
Diplo’s lawsuit finally concluded this week when the court sided in favor of him. They awarded him $1.2 million in damages, attorney fees, and other costs associated with the controversy.
Though the DJ has had little comment on the lawsuit, his attorney released a statement expressing his gratitude with the ruling. “We are all extremely pleased for Wes (Diplo) and his family,” the lawyer said. “What happened here is simple. The arbitrator looked at all the facts. She evaluated the evidence impartially. And justice prevailed.”
Diplo and Shelly began dating in 2019, though she says they started talking in 2014.
